OpenAI adds Epic EHR integration and Healthcare Public Data plugin to ChatGPT

OpenAI has introduced a new integration allowing healthcare organizations to connect authorized patient context from Epic electronic health records into ChatGPT for Healthcare, alongside a Healthcare Public Data plugin providing structured access to official datasets.

• The Epic integration enables clinicians to review patient history and prepare for appointments within ChatGPT or directly in the EHR workflow.
• The Healthcare Public Data plugin connects to nine official sources including PubMed, DailyMed, CMS Coverage, and ClinicalTrials.gov.
• Physicians evaluated responses across 27 clinical use cases, rating 99.1% of them as safe.
• In separate evaluations using large U.S. healthcare datasets, more than 93% of responses were rated as having "good" or better accuracy.

These capabilities aim to help clinical and administrative teams access trusted information in a governed workspace that supports HIPAA-compliant workflows.
