OpenAI has released two new models, GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna, which are now live in the OpenAI API. These models sit below the previously launched GPT-6 Astra and aim to bring its technical advances to faster, more affordable tiers for complex coding and high-volume everyday work.

  • API pricing is cut by 50% compared to GPT-5.6 promotional rates: Sol costs $2/$10 per 1M tokens, while Luna costs $0.10/$0.50.
  • On AutomationBench 1.0.6, Sol at xhigh effort scores 33.2% at $0.27 per task, outperforming Claude Opus 5 at max effort for a fraction of the cost.
  • On DeepSWE v1.1, Luna scores 66.6%, costing 93% less per task than Claude Opus 5 and 96% less than Claude Fable 5.
  • The release includes improved prompt caching with up to 90% discounts on cached input reads and new developer controls like breakpoints and prewarming.

The models are available via API, ChatGPT Work, and Codex, with Luna also accessible to free users on the desktop app.
