OpenAI has released GPT-5.2 Pro and GPT-5.2 Thinking, describing them as its strongest models yet for scientific and mathematical work. The company aims to accelerate scientific research by helping researchers explore ideas and test hypotheses faster.
On the GPQA Diamond benchmark, GPT-5.2 Pro achieves 93.2% accuracy, with GPT-5.2 Thinking reaching 92.4%. GPT-5.2 Thinking also set a new state of the art on FrontierMath (Tier 1–3) by solving 40.3% of expert-level mathematics problems.
OpenAI positions these models as tools for supporting mathematical reasoning and accelerating early-stage exploration, while emphasizing that human judgment remains essential for verification and interpretation.
