Google is updating its Private AI Compute platform to support persistent, cross-device AI memory while maintaining on-device privacy standards. This change resolves the dilemma of providing long-term continuity for AI assistants without compromising the strict privacy limits typically associated with on-device processing.

The new architecture functions as a secure digital vault where information is sealed in encrypted cloud storage, but cryptographic keys remain exclusively on the user's personal devices. When assistance is needed, an authenticated channel connects the device to a protected "secure enclave" that temporarily decrypts data in isolated memory to handle requests before immediately re-encrypting it.

To build trust, Google is publishing a tamper-proof public record of its server software and results from an independent cybersecurity audit, allowing users to verify system authenticity before sending personal data.
