On July 9th, OpenAI released ChatGPT Work, a new agent product designed for knowledge work. Three weeks after launch, the product along with Codex has reportedly crossed 10 million users.
- Work connects to external services like Slack, email, Drive, and CRMs to gather context and produce finished artifacts such as sheets, docs, slides, and hosted Sites.
- It runs on the Codex harness, inheriting its models, sub-agents, browser use capabilities, and the ability to sustain tasks for hours.
- Tasks run in an isolated cloud microVM or locally on desktop; Pro accounts receive 8 CPUs and 20GB of RAM, while Plus gets 14GB of RAM.
- Greg Brockman confirmed that the Work and Chat modes will merge by the end of the year to serve ChatGPT's billion weekly users.
The product serves as a preview for how the majority of ChatGPT's user base will interact with the app, consolidating various agent capabilities into a single interface.
